Citizens' Corner debate on the right to vote

Just a few months ahead of the European elections in May this year, there are many unresolved questions and issues around the right to vote in the EU. These took centre stage during our Citizens’ Corner debate, which featured MEPs, EU experts on the topic and students who raised their concerns and questions. Our journalistic aim with these monthly debates is to provide information on the set of rights EU citizens have, but also to discover gaps which may still remain between the applicable legal rules and the reality of citizens in their daily lives, particularly in cross-border situations. An open dialogue is facilitated, contributing to new insights between all actors involved.

The debate was produced by Euranet Plus and the public service of Radio-Television Slovenia (RTV SLO), a member of the Euranet Plus network. This part of the debate was moderated by Lidija Petkovič. The guests were:

MEP Ashley Fox, European Conservatives and Reformists Group

MEP Andrew Duff, Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe

MEP Rainer Wieland, Vice-President of the European Parliament, Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats)

Marjory Van den Broeke, Head of the Press Unit of the European Parliament

Doru Franțescu, Policy Director at VoteWatch Europe
