UC Townhomes activists join Art Museum picket line
Philadelphia Art Museum workers, on strike since Sep. 26, were joined by a dozen Save the UC Townhomes residents and supporters on a picket line Sep. 30.
Several would-be visitors to the Art Museum were persuaded to come another day after the strike is won in response to the boisterous picketing at the Museum's West Entrance.
Seventy eight UC Townhomes families are threatened with eviction by developers hoping to make millions by displacing the current Black and Brown residents located in a gentrifying neighborhood near the University of Pennsylvania.
Their strong participation in the striking art museum picket line highlighted the solidarity necessary to win all workers struggles, whether on the job or in their communities.
The union members are in a momentous fight for their first contract against very wealthy benefactors who control the PMA Board of Trustees.
The UC Townhomes residents are in a year-long fight against powerful real estate, university and political powers.
In other words, both struggles have a common goal in winning specific gains from the bourgeoisie.
