Egg Visions
Week 6, Saturday
I don't know where the idea for this picture came, so don't ask. All I know that I had sight in my mind for couple of days and I wish I would remember where it started precisely. It kept coming back and to realize it I needed to found certain kind of egg cartons which have holes in them. At the first it turned out that they don't make so much that kind of cartons anymore, they are all closed ones. I wandered from shop to another with Aura on a daily basis and just when I was about to give up, we found these 'old kind of egg cartons' and were very happy. Later at same night I found myself laughing alone while I was setting things up for this photograph. It was fun to shoot.
One reason why I started my 365-project (which then turned into 52-project) and this photo blog was that I wanted to be more conscious about my own photographic eye; the use of composition, colors and light, but also a particular way of seeing things and subjects. Having a 365-project would force me to concentrate on photography and my own photographic eye would open up naturally. So far I've found that with this project I photograph very differently that I would without it. I like the stuff I've done and it does something to my intuition, but as I said, I don't know why have the ideas that I have. It seems that I keep coming back to subjects which one could call 'everyday surrealism' or something similar (for example see Day 10 and Day 14). The question is: why this subject and not something else? Is it part of my photographic eye or just a coping mechanism to get me through 52 weeks? Or is my photographic eye formed by the challenges I create for myself and how I solve them? Not sure if I can give any definitive answer at this point, but through the repetition it becomes more clear that there are certain subjects and themes that I'm drawn to. Everyday surrealism seems to be one of them – at least for today.
Ps. Looks like we are going to eat omelets for next couple of days.
