Alpine Penny-cress
Alpine Penny-cress (Nocceae caerulescens) is a nationally rare plant in the UK confined largely to Teesdale and the Pennines with colonies in the limestone "white Peak" area of the Derbyshire Peak District. The plant is tolerant of poisonous heavy metals in the soil so favours areas of mining and other industrial waste and spoil tips. In Derbyshire the plant is confined to spoil tips of old lead mines and is known locally as "leadwort". Confusingly, another lead tolerant plant, Spring Sandwort is also known as leadwort in the Derbyshire Peak District.
