Nevada State RR Museum Doodlebugs pt. 1, 10 Aug 2019

The Nevada State RR Museum ran its two operable doodlebugs on 10 Aug 2019.

Tucson, Cornelia & Gila Bend 401 operates regularly at the museum. It was built in 1924 and operated in Arizona until 1947, operating between the SP main at Gila Bend and the copper mining community at Ajo. For its full history, see www.nsrm-friends.org/nsrm14.html

Virginia and Truckee 22 is the only operable McKeen car. It runs a few weekends a year at the NSRM. The carbody was saved when the V&T retired it, but the trucks and mechanical components were scrapped and had to be built new when the NSRM restored the car. A new Cummins engine is mounted on the new front truck, rather than trying to replicate the original McKeen gas engine. The NSRM has more information about the McKeen car at www.nsrm-friends.org/nsrm44.html

This first album of my visit includes the Wabuska, Nevada depot, which was brought to Carson City from where it had been on SP's Mina branch, and my ride on TC&GB 401. A second album of my ride on the McKeen car will follow.
