Novadive XR
Built for the #glupbricko contest, this is an Old Republic-era starfighter. Inspired by the Novadive and Liberator class fighters, which I actually built many many years ago. I'll link that in a separate post at some point, perhaps.
I didn't want to just copy the source material/my earlier build, so I decided to go for a dual seat, bigger and bulkier ship, and then justified that in lore with the "extended range" tag. That way I'm not beholden to accuracy against a source picture that's probably no larger than 640x480px...
Build highlights for this are the cockpit, which is a fun amalgamation of many parts (I wish they were all available in the shame transparent shade but no such luck) and the wings, which are overcomplicated but look quite cool. They're also hinged and fold in flush to the greeble channel that runs down the side of the ship, as demonstrated in a rather shaky video.
Lowlights include those panels on the side of the nose. They're on a single mixel joint each and while the angle and finished profile is good, they were an absolute pain to get to that state because they fall off and inwards at the slightest touch. Because of course they do.
In general though, I'm very pleased with this. I spent a lot of time staring at builds from others whom I enjoy and admire, and trying to build in a modern fashion. To that end, this thing is almost entirely studless, and the only filled-in studs are on the inside of the wings that secure them open or a select few on the bottom to attach it to the stand. I'm not counting the hollow studs on the wings that hide a half-plate gap!
I'll do another few pictures of details and such in a few days, once engagement on this has died off. Yay for cynically manipulating view counts!
The tentative plan right now is for this, and I, to be back at Bricktastic next February. I probably ought to get on and build some more, but Destiny 2's final update is providing a great deal of distraction...
