The heavy train's leader is a rarity on the NS system. 8887 was built in 1995 for the NS, and has retained its original number and spot on the roster for 23 solid years of service. This unit and her sisters are rapidly being torn to shreds and rebuilt in the halls of Roanoke, Fort Worth, and Juniata to newer and more efficient AC44C6Ms with wide cabs and 4000 series roster spots. This is one of a dwindling fleet, and it made for a nice shot at Cook Springs on the Atlanta East End District.
