Relation to my work

This image relates to the project surfaces and more specifically to the idea of decay of surfaces because even when life is so carefully protected at place like Kew Gardens the life will always decay eventually even when it seems the most vibrant and alive. The high vibrancy of colours compared with the loss of colour in the decay highlights this.

Evaluation

One of my favourite things about this image is that the high amount of light which could be considered an over-exposure however I have deliberately done this so that detail is lost in the top third of the image which therefore drives the audiences attention to the bottom third of the image and the focal point(the red egg shaped plant). Secondly the colours of the focal point of the image has a high level of contrast with the rest of the image which immediately draws attention to the focal point. One thing about the image that I like is the textual detail that can be seen on the focal point which makes it far more interesting for the audience meaning that it is more likely that they will focus on it.

One particular part of the image that could be considered a distraction is the shape edges of the tree trunk in the top right of the image however in the bottom left of the image the leaves cover the sharp edges and do not distract from the focal point. One of the downfalls of this image is that the display information at Kew Gardens such as the yellow tags distract from the focal point of the image especially the vibrant coloured one. In order to improve this image I could manipulate the photo in Photoshop by methods such as cropping and cloning to remove them. Similarly to the display information the pathway distracts from the focal point which could also be removed to improve the image. The low levels of light at the bottom of the red part of the plant does cause a loss of detail In the texture however this affect could be reduced or even eliminated through the manipulation of the levels in Photoshoot.
