Concubine
The questions that this painting provokes for me is: Why is this woman with the crown performing fellatio on this lucky gentleman? and What is the relationship between this man and woman? You may assume that as the artist, I know these answers in advance, but sadly, I don't. Once the painting is finished, I am only a witness. A witness to my own subconscious.
Ok, so seeing how these paintings, do in some way represent what is in my subconscious, I think that maybe, in a way, I do kind of know what is going on, but then there is the fear of admitting it.
When I look at this, the man is clearly the one in the subservient position. The woman has the crown, the lion and the weapon. Not too mention, although fellatio is a very pleasurable position for a man, it is also a very vulnerable position. The most sensitive part of his body is surrounded by teeth! Hence, the man is totally at her mercy!
The woman in this painting (who is also a figment of my subconsious!) is obviously very powerful and courageous (she has just killed a lion). The man seems to give her the emotional strength to fuel this power. She is showing gratitude for his humility, assurance and acceptance of her.
Please, do not take this, or any of my interpretations as gospet! Like I said, I am simply a spectator! The images flow through me -- not the meaning behind the images!!
