- Lack of inspiration - (2)
I have a special interest in knowing how people choose names to the things, especially to things that I like: flowers, birds, etc.
In this specific case I got a bit disappointed with the name (in Portuguese) of this beautiful bird. It's found in Brazil (particularly on the Atlantic Forest), Argentina and Paraguay, measures about 11 cm in length. The male has dark blue plumage, yellow tufts on the sides of the chest and brown belly, while females are greenish.
The english name is: Chestnut-bellied Euphonia (Euphonia Pectoralis) while the name in portuguese is "Ferro Velho" (Old Iron), in my opinion a name of debatable inspiration.
