From the start, Like That One by Belle and Cheu has been a guerilla operation. We wanted to bring some fun, some DIY spirit, and some vintage cool to Singapore. We take the "reduce, re-use, re-cycle" mantra very seriously. Tearing down Indonesian homes to build furniture is more sustainable than feeling trees, but less so than just...fixing up a teak sideboard from the 1960s! As a bonus, these chic "green" pieces often use wide, solid planks of teak that few can replicate today.
Like That One is also fascinated by industrial pieces which can be re-used in a new context. We scour the city to salvage these items, from hawker centres to defunct kueh bakeries. Demand outstrips supply, however, and we also import high-quality, newly-made pieces in the industrial vintage style. From treasuring the local combination of teak wood and laminate to rescuing industrial pieces from old factories, Like That One is there, ahead of the curve.
