It's a funny thing, I can look at a photograph for several minutes and just enjoy it. I believe I am not even thinking during that time, just absorbing. Call it 'contemplating'. It's when a picture has faults that I am starting to think.

The technology is in its own right a fascinating topic that I love to discuss. There's also a good amount of magic to holding a super precise (i.e. expensive) or super old piece of glass in your hand and trigger a shot.

But for me, many questions regarding the "art" of photography remain unanswered. And for these, you cannot, in opposition to the technology, find the answers on wikipedia.

Why should my pictures have a portrait or landscape format? Shouldn't square be the default and use the other formats for a specific purpose? Why do B&W photos have so much more impact than color photos? - though I have seen some that proved the contrary. So which and when? Where, for instance, are the limits of Street photography? Is the photographer allowed to affect the scene?

Those questions probably don't have answers or they can only be subjective. And I think this is exactly why I'm am taking pictures everyday, to find out by myself.

But then again, will I get any answers? Well, that is why I post my photographs on this website! I love to read reactions, see that this picture got more impact than this other one, even when at first I was sure it would be the other way around.

Hence, this is just fascinating. Thanks to all of you who comment, favorite or whatever option there is. If you wonder why I added you as a contact, it is because I noticed that you are exploring some directions and I would like to follow that (from the distance).

Regarding tech, I started in the summer of 2009 with a Nikon D90 (a present that I upgraded). Went on for two years and got a D700 that I broke within 3 weeks (salt water splash - see my photo called 'Portovenere'). Went on with the D90 for another half year and got another D700 (second hand this time..) and I love it. But it's BIG. For candid/street photography I got myself a Fuji X100 which even with its flaws is fantastic. Sharpness is so important.

All right. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the show! (or the 'process' should I say..)

Oh, and of course you can have a look at my website, but it's not updated all that often and basically contains a selection of what you can find here.

All my photographs are available in full resolution, so feel free to use them. But please, inform me if you do so.

If you appear in one of the photographs and that it is a problem for you, contact me r|b|a|r|g|i|e|AT|y|m|a|i|l|.|c|o|m and I will remove it from the stream. It is of course in no way my intent to trouble or irritate anyone.
