At the time of photographing this scene I was in Jackson Hole, WY for about 2 weeks, roughly from Oct. 10 through Oct. 24. It's generally around the second or third week that the temps drops to the point the smaller ponds and the beaver dam you see here starts freezing. The best time to shoot this for the icy look is from just after sunrise to 3 hours after. After that, this beaver dam gets a lot of open southern exposure from the sun. However, from late October on, it's frozen until spring.

I'll be travelling back to Jackson Hole, WY in 2017 where I will conduct a 4 day photography workshop over the third week in June and over the week of September 20, 2017 for the fall colors. During each workshop, I will conduct a Milky Way night sky workshop which will include 3 days of 4 hours of Photoshop post processing so you may learn how to really make the Milky Way pop in your photos.

My 2017 4-5 day photography workshop schedule:

ANP, Canyonlands & Monument Valley - March 24-29

Icons of the Southwest w/Ryan Smith - April 23-28

Jackson Hole, Wyoming spring - June 21-25

Jackson Hole, Wyoming fall - September 19-23

The great part is that in 2017 I will return to Jackson Hole for the incredible wildflowers throughout the valley and the surrounding mountains.
