Conrail Classics? rescan

It's a murky muggy August day in 1978. John Eagan and I are on a swing of visiting the northeastern part of the country, in search of treasures that we're not going to find in our home state of Illinois. Treasures like the beast on the right, GG-1 4857, joined by another future classic, SD40-2 6440. Both of these Conrail classics are getting ready to roll out of Harrisburg, PA. The 6440 is tied onto an old untouched ex PC SD45, while the 4857 is part of a trio of GG-1's. Maybe, someone can tell me why the 4857 has those air screens or radiators or whatever they are up on the nose instead of the carbody like other GG-1s do.
