Is It Always Forever?

Ramblings from Eastern Iowa:

So a thought occurs to me. No, that's not unusual at all. I want to share the particular thought, so will.

When a photo is made, processed, and uploaded to Flickr, is that the end of the story? Does that uploaded photo remain frozen in time and place? Is its form immutable from then on?

As we each increase our photographic skills, we can TAKE better pictures. As we get more sophisticated processing software...or learn how to use it better...our finished product is higher quality (we hope.)

But what about old photos already on Flickr...uploaded years, gear, and skill ago?

I've always liked this eagle photo, and have constantly wished for the same photo op as occurred at the beginning of February, 2009 (so many years and cameras ago.) I did the best I could with the image at the time.

Now I decided to revisit the original file, and see if I could do more with the processing, to bring it somewhat up to date quality-wise. Well, you can only do so much without going in and making changes at the pixel-by-pixel level. Still, I think the photo is significantly better, even though the original file is as it was more than six and a half years ago.

The ORIGINAL image, as uploaded to Flickr, is in the top comment box.
