Prunus domestica is a species of flowering plant in the family Rosaceae. A deciduous tree, it includes many varieties of the fruit trees known as plums in English, though not all plums belong to this species.
The species' hybrid parentage was believed to be Prunus spinosa and Prunus cerasifera; however, recent cytogenetic evidence seem to Prunus cerasifera as the sole wild stock from which the cultivated Prunus domestica could have evolved.

Квітки зібрані в прості зонтики, кожна складається із 5 зеленувато-білих пелюсток і 5 Чашолистоків, 25-30 тичинок, нектарники розташовані на квітколожі. Цвіте слива у травні, кожна квітка живе до 5 днів, все дерево загалом 8 -10 днів.
