Pete McCracken, owner of Crack Press and type designer himself at the Portland Type Co, kindly invited Veronika to hold a two-day type design workshop in Porltand, Oregon, this July. The workshop was hosted by Wieden & Kennedy, an internationally recognized ad agency.
Students were asked to develop a few pre-defined letters prior to the workshop, which were then improved and expanded during the first day. Practical drawing was accompanied by a series of short theoretical lessons, designed to reaffirm the students' knowledge in basic practices of type design, such as optical corrections, countershapes and bezier curve drawing. During the second day students made good progress on their typefaces and the short lectures focused on the more technical aspects of type design, such as spacing, kerning and opentype features.
