Western Bloodsucking Conenose Bug with webbing

Yipes! This is a real Western Bloodsucking Conenose Bug (Triatoma protracta) in the Reduviidae family of the order Heteroptera, Hemiptera. It's dead, and it's covered by shroud-like webbing of spider web. It's a kind of kissing bug -- so called because they feed on blood during the night and prefer to bite humans around the mouth or eyes. I moved it to a white towel outside. This is one insect I don't want to find in our house, but Julie found it in a pile of give-away clothes in her office yesterday. (San Marcos Pass, 12 September 2023)
