Feeding Frenzy

Sue put this little birdhouse in our front yard. A couple house wrens have taken up residency and started a family. From other photos I have been able to make out 4 little chicks inside. There may be more. We just don’t know.

So, I put the camera on the tripod and set it in front of the birdhouse. Then I plug in my 15 foot shutter release extension cord, move as far away as I can, and sit on the ground and wait.

Eventually, one wren comes along hopping and running around on the ground with some food in its mouth. But it seems like it doesn’t want to chance it because of the camera and tripod. So another wren shows up and it looks a bit more daring. It actually lands on the tripod and flies around and lands on the tripod again.

I get the impression it is trying to tell the first one, “Hey, it’s no big deal. This thing isn’t going to hurt you. Go on and feed the kids, why don’t you.”

So, finally it goes for it and the kids get fed. Or at least one of them gets food this time.
