Neatly Trimmed - _TNY_1584 (In Explore 8/4 2025)

Here is a bit of a favourite shot of 2023 for me. I couldn't figure out what species it was so I asked around a bit and got the following conclusion: "12 segments per antennae and corbiculae on the hind legs means it must be a female of a social bumblebee and not a cuckoo one.

Then the colouration indicates some sort of ground bumblebee and the relatively wide collar which doesn't reach below the wing attachment and a pale yellow band on the second tergite points to a white-tailed bumblebee (Bombus lucorum), probably a queen.

Regardless of which species, the shot came out just great (if I'm allowed to toot my own horn here). The way the magenta thistle is reflected in the lower part of the eye looks really cool.
