Camera Tryout - _TNY_8938
By now, my Canon 5Ds is a 15 year old model. I've only had it since early 2021, but it isn't really state-of-the-art tech anymore.
This is why it was a great opportunity to get to try a co-worker's recently purchased Canon R6 on a visit to the Haga Ocean butterfly house. I still used the same lens and tripod as usual so the user experience wasn't trememndously different, but still very cool for me.
The R6 is of course a ridiculously more competent camera in basically all aspects - but after trying this one out, I don't feel the upgrade bug taking hold of me.
The AF system is way way better, having IBIS (in-body image stabilization) is great, it can capture video at faster framerates and higher resolution and the high-ISO capabilities blow my camera out of the water.
But the thing is, I don't need either of those features. AF isn't useful at macro magnifications, freezing the frame with flash beats IBIS, I don't shoot video and there is no need for high ISO when I have all the light I need from the flash.
The 50.3 megapixel resolution of the 5Ds instead of 24 on the R6 is still more useful for my use case so I would be buying a camera which is better at everything I don't do - for cutting my resolution in half.
Still, it was awesome to get to try and a big thank you to Jarek for letting me have a go with it.
The butterfly captured here is a blue-banded morpho (Morpho achilles) which posed willingly on a leaf of a peace lily (Spathiphyllum wallisii) for "my" R6.
