Here is a short video of me trying to pet a common wasp (Vespula vulgaris) while it was in the process of munching nectar off the large inflorescence on a purple angelica (Angelica gigas) in my mother-in-law's garden outside Härnösand, Sweden.
As you can see, miss Wasp wasn't interested in being touched so she took off and landed on the other side of her mountain of food to continue eating.
Now I know people who think all wasps are aggressive assholes and will absolutely go out of their way to attack you, but that really isn't my experience with them at all. As long as you take it cool and don't try to swat them, they seem perfectly ok with sharing their space with me (and I presume other humans as well).
