Violet Blue - _TNY_4470
The cranberry blue (Agriades optilete) like this male isn't a species I shoot very often, but me and my son found this one next to a small logging road outside Härnösand, Sweden on an early July visit.
Hopefully, I'll manage some shots of the dorsal side of the wings on one soon as they are rather gorgeous with a deep blue, almost violet hue and a thick dark border.
When we came across this one, I had the MP-E65 mm lens on the camera which, while wonderfully sharp, isn't an ideal butterfly lens as the maximum distance from the front glass to the subject is 10.1 cm / 4" so it can be quite tricky to fit the subject in frame. Here I tried solving it by shooting more from the top and also got lucky the butterfly didn't get scared and flew off.
