Texas Longhorn, Pt. 2 - _TNY_8840

(Last month (ie middle of July 2024), we were out at my mom's summer house celebrating her 75th birthday which went really well. My son also decided to be a quite atypical 15-year-old boy and began picking bilberries which grow around the house there. Bilberries, in case you're unfamiliar, is the European version of the North American blueberry - slightly smaller, but significantly jucier and with a better taste.

Daniel gave grandma the blueberries, but when it was time to go home, she gifted them back to him (which pleased him greatly) and he's been munching away at them for the last couple of days.

Now you're probably wondering what theis has to do with this impressivly spiked bug, right? Well, this is a bilberry shieldbug (Elasmucha ferrugata) which Daniel found (ie) on the wall in his room so I'm thinking this one hitched a ride with the bilberries and then ended up in his room).

After taking some shots of it on his wall (www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/53876306761/), I carried it outside and put it down on one of my wife's plants in the garden and took this shot.
