New Friend - _TNY_7843

My heart beat a little harder when I noticed this bridge spider (Larinioides sclopetarius), also known as the grey cross-spider, next to my neighbours porch light.

It isn't a particularily rare species, far from it, but I never seem to come across any of them and our neighbourhood is spider-wise dominated by the common cross spider/European garden spider.

Now the other species can be very pretty, but in my opinion, this one is prettier.

This one had its web quite high up so I took this with the camera above my head, just looking through the viewfinder from a distance, but I got lucky and nailed the focus pretty good on the first try which was good as it didn't enjoy the flash and climbed up its web, well out of reach of any subsequent shots.

This is a little modified in post. One foot was just slightly out of frame so I nudged the framing down just a little and added a tweaked version of one of the other feet to have the whole spider in frame.
