Feeding Woes - _TNY_6123

The Haga Ocean butterfly house has to incorporate artificial feeding of the butterflies as Swedish levels of sunlight aren't enough during the winter to sustain enough natural flowers.

On top of fruits like pineapple, bananas and oranges which are cut open and left to ferment (hey, the butterflies really love that) they use plastic flowers like these pink lilies sprayed with sugar water as feeding stations.

The hungry visitor here is a butterfly with the curious name the great or common eggfly (Hypolimnas bolina). In New Zealand, it is known as the blue moon butterfly.

This is another shot from the visit where I forgot to bring the tripod, resulting in handheld shots with less ideal camera settings, but I still think the composition works.
