I got lucky by my mother-in-law's garden pond when this female blue hawker (Aeshna cyanea) allowed me this close while she was laying eggs in the pond.
The blue hawker is also known as the southern hawker in Englsih, but that feels like a bit of a misnomer for this one as my mother-in-law live outside Härnösand which is far more northern than the northernmost point of the UK. In fact, it's further north than Anchorage, Alaska.
