The Waiting Wolf, Pt. 4 - _TNY_2403
This gasteruptid wasp (Gasteruption boreale) and a couple of its brethren were waiting just above where a yellow-faced bee (Hylaeus sp.) was preparing its egg chamber. Not really sure what she is doing with her hind legs in this shot but they look quite odd with the slightly bizarre body shape they have.
No doubt the plan was to raid the nest and lay their own egg in or on top of the bee's and I felt bad for it being unable to do anything but continue to set the table for the wasps.
This is one of the species with a shorter ovipositor, but some species have one longer than the rest of the wasp!
2.4:1 magnification shot.
