Very Orange Spots - _TNY_2053

The male blue-frosted banner (Catonephele numilia) is a difficult butterfly to photograph. The black is of the really deep, matte kind while the orange of the large spots is very intense which makes getting a good exposure showing both a bit tricky.

Here at least the blue colouration on the edges of the wings which gives it this name is showing well.

Speaking of names, this species is also known as the bluespotted firewing, the Grecian shoemaker, the blue-frosted Catone and the stoplight Catone - settling on a name appears just as difficult as taking photos of it...

For a shot of what the female looks like, have a look here for one sitting on top of my camera lens: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52753405856/
