Fleur-de-lis, Pt. 2 - _TNY_1657

A female European garden spider (Araneus diadematus), also known as the cross orb-weaver, diadem spider, crowned orb-weaver and more which I found moving about in her web in my garden one day in August.

From this angle, the white cross on the abdomen which has given the species its name looks quite a lot like a fleur-de-lis, the French lily, on this specimen

For a shot taken right next to this one of another spider of the same species eating her prey - have a look here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52694549316/
