The Mimicked - _TNY_0891

Time for another pretty butterfly on an unflattering background because that's where I found it - and it wouldn't move.

This one looks a bit boring here in almost completely black - but if it just had been in a better position I've could shown you how the body is largely brightly red and some nice red markings on the underside as well.

This species is known as the pink rose (Pachliopta kotzebuea) and is in fact one of the red-bodied swallowtails which the mormon butterflies mimic (I mentioned it a couple of days ago when I posted this male yellow mormon: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52721755981/)

In case you're wondering about the origin of the name, it is named by naturalist Johann Friedrich von Eschscholtz for his commander named Otto von Kotzebue on the Russian ship the Rurik on its circumnavigational voyage from 1815–1818.
