Mr. Spearhead - _TNY_1686

There are several species of damselfly here which at a glance look the same. All of them small, narrow and blue, right?

The blue ones (like this one) are the males and the females tend to be more white or grey. This one is a spearhead bluet (Coenagrion hastulatum), also known as the northern bluet, which I found on a leaf near the Nedre Dammen pond at Åva-Stensjödal in Tyresta national park.

There were several of these at this location so I managed to also snap a shot of a female here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/51860275045/

So why "spearhead". Well, the male of this species have a marking resembling a spearhead on segment 2 and 3 on the abdomen counted from the front (referred to as S2 & S3).
