Why the Long Face? - _TNY_0693

This pretty thing on top of the flowers on a common yarrow ()Achillea millefolium, is a female common scorpionfly (Panorpa communis).

 

Among other things, these guys (and girls) can sometimes use that long beak to pick prey out of spider webs.
