On the Flower Mound - _TNY_0722
A juvenile (as indicated by the green legs and the spider not being huge) raft spider (Dolomedes fimbriatus) on top of a common yarrow (Achillea millefolium).
Dolomedes is Greek for wily or crafty and is in reference to how the spider hunts. Fimbriatus means fringed, but I am not really sure what is fringed about this one. Ideas and suggestions welcome!
If we wer to continue with the etymology, Achillea comes from it being a plant used medicinally by Achilles and millefolium means (quite fittingly) "a thousand flowers" which is a good description of the yarrow.
