Butterfly Magnet - _TNY_7100

The purple eastern coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) is a brilliant addition to the garden. Not only is the flower gorgeous - it is also a veritable butterfly magnet.

We had dinner at a couple of friends yesterday and they had five of these small tortoiseshell (Aglais urticae) on their coneflowers - made for a great photo-op.

Coming home and getting this up on my monitor, I also noticed the (sadly out of focus) Xysticus crab spider (possibly X. ulmi) in front of the red photo bombing my butterfly shot.
