Right when I took this shot (in July), I knew that I was going to post it for Valentine's Day.
Not only is the male beautiful demoiselle (Calopteryx virgo) very cute peeking over the edge of the heart-shaped leaf and down on me - there is also a heart-shaped little hole on the leaf which some romantic insect has chewed out!
In case you wonder how it is possible to tell this is a male from just the sillhouette, just look at the tail end of the abdomen. That clasper is what the guys use to grasp the girls behind their head during mating.
