The nursery web spider (Pisaura mirabilis) is quite variable in colour (though most combinations are very attractive). This large male, which I found on the doormat (interesting texture!) outside the front door at 05.24 in the morning is one of the prettier I've encountered with that almost braided pattern on the abdomen.
