The Queen of Spain, Pt. 2 - _TNY_7462

This beautiful orange butterfly, found on a September day in Tyresta National Park just south of Stockholm, is the Queen of Spain fritillary (Issoria lathonia).

I've tried to figure out where the interesting English common name comes from, but all I've gatherered is that it was given in 1775 by Moses Harris in "The Aurelian's Pocket Companion", but no explanation for the name was given.

Another angle on the same beauty can be found here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/46019015834/
