A Long Awaited Drink - _TNY_6252

The summer of 2018 was very dry, so when there finally came a rain, there was a flurry of activity with insects looking to have a drink.

 

This great burnet (Sanguisorba officinalis) suddenly became very popular as the shape of the flowers meant that they became a bunch of drinking cups for the goverflies like this marmalade hoverfly (Episyrphus balteatus).
