A two-exposure focus stack of a male black darter/meadowhawk (Sympetrum danae) pearched on a leaf.
This guy was pretty spent after all the wild dragonfly sex he just had with his girlfriend on the leaf of an iris out in the garden pond so I could get close enough to get more than a single exposure off while he was recuperating.
The stacking allowed me to both capture the impressive fur on the thorax as well as the nice details of his compound eyes. Do try pressing "L" and then "Z" on your keyboard to zoom in and see the details - I think he is worth it.
S. danae is one of the smaller dragonflies we have with a body length of about no more than 30 mm / 1.2".
