First Quarter, 2011-01-12

The quarter moons are my favorite phases. The terrain that the terminator traverses is some of the most interesting and varied of all, and the orange slice shape is just plain attractive if you ask me!

This was created using my D200 on my 8 inch reflector telescope, operating at F5, which makes it about a 1000mm lens. While the focal length is interesting, the whopping 200mm aperture is what really makes this "lens" suitable for lunar and other astrophotography.

Be sure to view the largest size to pick up all the yummy details. There's a lot more information about how I made this photograph at moonshot.timsworlds.com/2011/01/13/first-quarter-2011-01-12/.
