2021 - Mexico City - 43 - Day of the Dead Marigold Display in Plaza Manuel Tolsá

Heading to Palacio Postal (the building on the left) we passed through the plaza in front of the Museo Nacional De Arte (MUNAL) - Plaza Manuel Tolsá.

The plaza was in use for Day of the Dead displays festooned in marigolds (cempasúchil).

Why Marigolds for Dia de los Muertos? It is believed the spirits of the dead visit the living during the celebration. Marigolds guide the spirits to their altars using their vibrant colors and pungent scent. Marigolds, or flowers in general, also represent the fragility of life.

Plaza Manuel Tolsa (Manuel Tolsa Square):

Plaza Manuel Tolsa features a rectangular open space, located in front of old Calle de Tacuba. This plaza is famous for its masterpiece – an equestrian sculpture of Charles IV of Spain, known as El Caballito.

The sculpture is a bronze piece of work made by famous Manuel Tolsa. Around the square are several amazing architectural buildings, like the Mining Palace, the National Museum of Art and the Postal Palace.
