Majo Joseph - Hour of Code

Hour of Code aims to offer free coding classes, business mentorship and leadership to 30 children (15 girls and 15 boys) aged 11-17 years in public schools in Manica district. Coding classes will not only equip them with basic ICT skills but transform them into programmers capable of using computers technology to solve community problems and start income generating projects. It will empower them so that they can leave fulfilling lives where they have access to academic, professional and business opportunities behind the computer screen. The project is important because it focuses on empowering vulnerable children from low income families in accessing basic ICT education for FREE. These children cannot afford to enroll into private schools where there is quality ICT education or ICT training centers for specific computer courses. I come from a community which i consider “marginalised” by government where access to ICT education and technology is very limited. I choose to work on this topic because we are living in technology era, hence the ICT illiterate youth will not thrive. The grant will allow us to run coding workshops where we will teach children to code using Scratch.
