This project is implemented by Jarkyn Shadymanova and SERC “Bilim Bakcha” in Kyrgyzstan. The project is an awareness raising project for rural women in Kyrgyzstan. Kyrgyzstan is known by its bride kidnapping practices. This kind of forced marriages caused unregistered marriages. Women in unregistered marriages can be among the most disadvantaged group in society, and many confront barriers as a direct result of their limited rights in the marriages. They are a subjected of violence and abuse, and have more difficulties ending an abusive relationship due to lack of support and legal protection. Ignorance may pose challenges, while existing gender stereotypes and discriminatory attitudes in the society is limited their rights. Women in the rural places are poorly informed or not educated about their rights. This project aims to inform and train women about their human rights in rural places in Kyrgyzstan.
