Icebreaker

While working in the Canadian Arctic, the ship my father was on became frozen fast in the ice and had to be rescued by an icebreaker (1955). Dad said the ice ripped a hole in the hull. A junior officer announced that they were sinking. An older, more experienced nco when down and blocked the hole with mattresses and sealed off that compartment. The benefit of experience shows!
