Maulana Jamali's Mosque, Mehrauli Archeological Park, Delhi
Jamali was a pen name for poet, traveller and Sufi Shiekh Fuzlullah. He was also known as Jalal Khan. Jamali was a famous city poet for Lodi as well as Mughal Empire. Jamali was introduced to Sufism by Shiekh Samauddin.
The Mosque was built by Maulana Jamali for preaching as well as provide 'serai' - Shelter to the weary travelers. The Mosque also had an elevated balcony for hanging a lamp as an indicator for travelers. The Mosque was built in 1528
The tomb of Maulana Jamali lies to the North of the Mosque. The tomb was built in 1529, while the Maulana was still alive. This complex was used by the Maulana as his Hospice, where he lived and preached.
When he died in 1536, the Maulana was buried in the main chamber. The cieling of the main chamber was decorated with his poems as inscriptions.
Kamali, an ardent follower of Maulana Jamali was buried in the pillared Cenotaph tomb in the complex
Hence it is also known as Jamali Kamali Mosque.
