Es war ein harziger Fußballnachmittag in der Südstadt: Die Admira Juniors kamen gegen den abgeschlagenen Ostliga-Letzten aus Simmering erst nach der Pause auf Touren und drehten einen 0:1-Rückstand noch in ein 3:1 um. Die Gäste waren gegen die lange pomadig auftretenden Admiraner durch Steigberger nach 12 Minuten in Führung gegangen, ehe der eingewechselte Burusic durch einen Foulelfmeter (52.) und einen fulminanten Weitschuss (66.) die Partie umdrehte. Sulimani stellte vier Minuten vor Schluss den Endstand her. Die Südstädter bleiben damit weiter seit dem 14. September des Vorjahres ungeschlagen, Simmering im Frühjahr weiter ohne Sieg. Selten waren die Ausgangspositionen einer Ostliga-Partie so klar: Die Admira Juniors seit 19 Spielen ohne Niederlage, Simmering im Frühjahr noch ohne Sieg. Diese Affiche dürften die Heimischen etwas zu leicht genommen haben, Sulimanis leichtfertiger Schuss übers Tor nach fünf Minuten weist schon auf eine etwas laxe Einstellung hin.
Bezeichnend auch die Gästeführung: Djuricic kann links durchs Mittelfeld laufen und Steigberger anspielen, der findet sich eigentlich widerstandslos vor Goalie Leitner wieder und vollendet (12.). Nicht nur der nach einem Zweikampf zuvor benommene Pöllhuber stand da völlig neben sich.
Die Admira auch nach dem Rückstand weiter sehr pomadig, vor allem die Kampfmannschafts Leihgaben Pöllhuber, Gremsl und Sulimani eine einzige Enttäuschung. Lediglich der quirrlige Sax hält etwas dagegen, wird bei der einzigen Admira-Chance vor Seitenwechsel aber noch abgeblockt (33.). Auf der anderen Seite produziert Pöllhuber mit dem Pausenpfiff fast noch ein Eigentor.
Zwei Umstellungen bei der Admira zur Pause, vor allem die Hereinnahme von Standardspezialist Burusic sollte sich noch auswirken. Nach 51 Minuten hackt der wie so viele Simmeringer in dieser Liga völlig überforderte Saimler Sulimani im Strafraum um, Burusic verwandelt den Elfer ohne Probleme. Auf der Gegenseite bleibt eine Strafraumattacke von Posch an Orman ungeahndet, bei harmlosen Zweikämpfen im Mittelfeld war Schiri Zinkl eher zu Pfiffen aufgelegt.
Die Heimischen, nach der Pause wesentlich spritziger und schneller, stellen nach 66 Minuten die Weichen auf Sieg: Pöllhuber bringt einen Simmering-Abschlag schnell wieder in die Spitze, von Sax springt der Ball zu Burusic, der mit einem herrlichen Bogenschuss aus 20 Metern trifft.
Die Admira findet danach wesentlich mehr Freiräume vor, die Simmeringer geben sich aber nicht auf, Kurka knallt jedoch die einzige Ausgleichschance vom Sechzehner in die Botanik. Vier Minuten vor Schluss nimmt sich Sulimani dann einen weiten Posch-Pass mit der Hand mit, und trifft trotz Markovic’ Freistileinlage zum Endstand.
Admira damit in 20 Spielen ungeschlagen, heute agierte man aber vor der Pause pfui und danach auch nicht gerade hui…

A visit to the National Trust property of Erddig near Wrexham in Wales.
Erddig Hall (Welsh: Neuadd Erddig; or simply Erddig; Welsh pronunciation: [ˈɛrðɪɡ]) is a Grade-I listed National Trust property in Wrexham, Wales. Standing 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Wrexham city centre, it comprises a country house built during the 17th and 18th centuries amidst a 1,900 acre estate, which includes a 1,200-acre landscaped pleasure park and the earthworks of a Norman motte-and-bailey castle.
Erddig has been described as 'the most evocative Upstairs Downstairs house in Britain' due to the well-rounded view it presents of the lifestyles of all of its occupants, both family and staff. The eccentric Yorke family had an unusual relationship with their staff and celebrated their servants in a large and unique collection of portraits and poems. This collection, coupled with well-preserved servants' rooms and an authentic laundry, bakehouse, sawmill, and smithy, provide an insight into how 18th to 20th century servants lived.
The state rooms contain fine furniture, textiles and wallpapers and the fully restored walled garden is one of the most important surviving 18th century gardens in Britain.
I briefly left the stable yard to have a look at the front of the house before going inside.
Grade I listed building
History
Original house built for Joshua Edisbury by Thomas Webb, freemason of Middlewich, Cheshire in 1683. In 1716 the house was acquired by John Meller of London who extended it, probably in two close but separate building campaigns, by adding double wings to each side. In 1733 the house passed to the Yorke family and in the 1770s a major phase of alteration was undertaken. The brick W front was remodelled and faced in stone by local architects J & W Turner working to a design attributed to James Wyatt; some interior rooms were remodelled at the same time using craftsmen associated with Wyatt. The lay-out has not been substantially changed since then and the retention of many of the earlier features reflects the antiquarian and genealogical interests of the Yorke family. The house was acquired by the National Trust in 1973 and a major phase of restoration was carried out during the 1970s by Robert Heaton of the Anthony Clark Partnership.
Exterior
East front: Red brick with stone dressings and string courses, slate roof hipped to central block, stone chimneys. 2 storeys with basement and attic. Windows are generally 12-pane sashes with casements to the basement. Near-symmetrical elevation which consists of central 9 window block with central pedimented entrance with steps leading up to it, above is a window with a stone architrave, and stone balustrading in the parapet. There is a range of 7 dormer windows in the steeply pitched roof. This block is flanked by 2-window wings with stone quoins, stone plinth to these and central block. Outermost 3-window wings of brick of slightly different colour have sashes to first floor, ground floor left side has a range of 3 bullseye windows with 9-pane sashes below, right hand range ground floor relates to the chapel and has a single bullseye window with a square-headed window beneath it on each side of a tall central arched window. The window levels do not match the inner wings.
W front refaced in ashlar in severe late C18 Neoclassical style; ashlar plinth, 3 storeys. Upper 2 storeys have 12-pane sash windows, ground floor 9-pane sashes. Central projecting 9-window pedimented block flanked by 6-window ranges; the central block has central entrance with doorcase with attached Ionic columns. Perron stone stairs with cast-iron swept handrail. The left hand return side has an entrance with stone doorcase.
Interior
The present arrangements originated with the late C18 remodelling though many rooms, particularly those on the W side retain earlier panelling. Patent decorative tin ceilings were introduced to some rooms as a fire precaution in the early C20. The ground floor has a suite of rooms on the W side consisting of entrance hall and drawing room both decorated in late C18 Neoclassical style with plaster friezes by Joseph Rose & Co and chimneypieces by John Devall the younger. Library to the N. Entrance hall leads to main staircase on left and back stair to right. Rooms on the E side consist of an oak-panelled saloon; the dining room to S contains a decorative scheme by Thomas Hopper in 1826 containing Doric screens with scagliola columns and a severe Greek Revival coffered ceiling. 2 rooms to the N of the saloon are known as the Tapestry Room and Chinese Room. The latter has roundels of rare C18 Chinese handpainted wallpaper affixed to the walls. This room leads to the family pew in the chapel. Change of level down to the chapel which has furnishings of various C18 dates, some brought from elsewhere. The walls are decorated with a stencilled scheme of 1907-9. Of the windows two are C18 windows by Joshua Price incorporating medieval glass which were brought from Wimpole Hall, Cambridgeshire in the early C20. Upper floor consists of suites of bedrooms on each side of a central long gallery which runs EW giving views of the formal gardens to the E and landscape park to W. The state bedroom on the N side has hand-painted Chinese wallpaper of late C18 date. To the S nurseries now staff accommodation, to the N a suite of family rooms now used for storage and offices. One of these has a fragment of wallpaper designed by Walter Crane. The attic has servants bedrooms.
The basement level has rooms off a long corridor and preserves an axis with family rooms to the N and service rooms to the S. The entrance from the W forecourt leads to a former billiard room known as the Tribes Room which was decorated late C18 with coats of arms of noble Welsh families. Other rooms include the butler's pantry with C18 fittings and fixtures, and the servants hall. Rooms in the S wing include accommodation for the housekeeper and agent. The kitchen range is separately listed.
Reasons for Listing
Listed grade I as a country house with late C17 origins and phases of early C18 and late C18 work including well-preserved interior schemes. It relates to an unusually well-preserved early C18 formal garden and a late C18 landscaped park.
Group value with kitchen, stable, buildings of the estate yard and listed garden structures.

Memphis is a city along the Mississippi River in southwestern Shelby County, Tennessee, United States. The 2019 population was 651,073, making Memphis the largest city on the Mississippi River, the second most populous in Tennessee, as well as the 26th largest city in the United States. Greater Memphis is the 42nd largest metropolitan area in the United States, with a population of 1,348,260 in 2017. The city is the anchor of West Tennessee and the greater Mid-South region, which includes portions of neighboring Arkansas, Mississippi, and the Missouri Bootheel. Memphis is the seat of Shelby County, Tennessee's most populous county. One of the more historic and culturally significant cities of the southern United States, Memphis has a wide variety of landscapes and distinct neighborhoods.
The first European explorer to visit the area of present-day Memphis was Spanish conquistador Hernando de Soto in 1541 with his expedition into the New World. The high Chickasaw Bluffs protecting the location from the waters of the Mississippi was then contested by the Spanish, French, and the English as Memphis took shape. Modern Memphis was founded in 1819 by three prominent Americans: John Overton, James Winchester, and future president Andrew Jackson.
Memphis grew into one of the largest cities of the Antebellum South as a market for agricultural goods, natural resources like lumber, and the American slave trade. After the American Civil War and the end of slavery, the city experienced even faster growth into the 20th century as it became among the largest world markets for cotton and lumber.
Home to Tennessee's largest African-American population, Memphis played a prominent role in the American civil rights movement and was the site of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s 1968 assassination. The city now hosts the National Civil Rights Museum—a Smithsonian affiliate institution. Since the civil rights era, Memphis has become one of the nation's leading commercial centers in transportation and logistics. Its largest employer is the multinational courier corporation FedEx, which maintains its global air hub at Memphis International Airport, making it the second-busiest cargo airport in the world. In addition to being a global air cargo leader, the International Port of Memphis also hosts the 5th busiest inland water port in the U.S., with access to the Mississippi River allowing shipments to arrive from around the world for conversion to train and trucking transport throughout the United States, making Memphis a multi-modal hub for trading goods for imports and exports despite its inland location.
Memphis is a regional center for commerce, education, media, art, and entertainment. It has long had a prominent music scene, with historic blues clubs on Beale Street originating the unique Memphis blues sound in the early 20th century. The city's music has continued to be shaped by a multicultural mix of influences: the blues, country, rock n' roll, soul, and hip-hop. Memphis barbecue has achieved international prominence, and the city hosts the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, which attracts over 100,000 visitors to the city annually.
