Oh what a beautiful day. . what a beautiful life, huh? To wake up before the sun does and sip a little coffee, just so I can function enough the walk my 500-ish foot walk to the beach (I counted :D) Just lean back an appreciate what there is. Sunrises are 60 diamond minutes, that reflect the golden memories and feelings.

About MSF

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international humanitarian aid organisation that provides emergency medical assistance to populations in danger in more than 70 countries.

In countries where health structures are insufficient or even non-existant, MSF collaborates with authorities such as the Ministry of Health to provide assistance. MSF works in rehabilitation of hospitals and dispensaries, vaccination programmes and water and sanitation projects. MSF also works in remote health care centres, slum areas and provides training of local personnel. All this is done with the objective of rebuilding health structures to acceptable levels.

Raising Awareness

In carrying out humanitarian assistance, MSF seeks also to raise awareness of crisis situations; MSF acts as a witness and will speak out, either in private or in public about the plight of populations in danger for whom MSF works. In doing so, MSF sets out to alleviate human suffering, to protect life and health and to restore and ensure respect for the human beings and their fundamental human rights.

Only a small percentage of the populations that find themselves in a situation of danger gain the attention of the media. MSF teams travel to places that many people have never heard of, to assist those who have fallen victim to natural or man-made disasters. MSF volunteers have a story to tell when they return from their missions, and they use their experiences to speak of what they have seen. For MSF, raising awareness for these populations and the situations they are in is an important task. Whenever possible, MSF volunteers give interviews and make presentations. MSF offices worldwide facilitate the organisation of gatherings, for individuals and groups who want to speak in their home communities. MSF also mounts exhibitions and, from time to time, releases publications, with the aim of raising awareness.

It is part of MSF's work to address any violations of basic human rights encountered by field teams, violations perpetrated or sustained by political actors. It does so by confronting the responsible actors themselves, by putting pressure on them through mobilisation of the international community and by issuing information publicly. In order to prevent compromise or manipulation of MSF's relief activities, MSF maintains neutrality and independance from individual governments. The organisation also tries to ensure that the majority of funds raised for its work comes directly from contributions from the general public. In this way, MSF guarantees equal access to its humanitarian assistance.

MSF has been setting up emergency medical aid missions around the world since 1971.

A Walk in the Park

by A. Keith Barton

Random people in the park

Play soccer until after dark

Hot dogs cook on the grill

Another goal, another kill

Sunlight filters through the trees

Boys and girls with banged-up knees

Random people in the park

Teens holding hands after dark

Steal a kiss now and then

Innocent love without much sin

Golden hair and young features

Defines another of God’s creatures

Random people in the park

Older couples still hold onto that spark

Gray hair and varicose veins

Defy Father Time just the same

Laughter and memories of soccer moms

Before college and high school proms

A lone figure in the park

Slow of feet, his features stark

Labored breath but eyes sparkle still

To catch the wind, another day fulfilled

Family memories of walks in the park

Silence now pervades the dark

Can you imagine taking a leap of of this massive cliff. Many people do....but not me! :)

I crawled out to the edge of this cliff, known as Preikestolen or Pulpit Rock, and looked down. I don't think there's any way I would have dared to base jump. This cliff is located on the fjord called Lysefjorden near Stavanger, Norway and is a massive 604 metres (1982 feet) above the fjord.

This is probably the coolest place I've ever been. Definitely worth the 2+ hour hike...and I was very fortunate to be there on such a clear day as it is often quite foggy up this high.

Esa noche estaba perdida.

"Nunca he pecado, nunca le he deseado mal a nadie...No consigo entenderlo"

This black and white is done in HDR with post processing in photomatix and Nik Silver eFX. I love this shot because of the clouds have a long exposure so they look pretty neat and cool. It sits about 25 feet high iits just amazing up close.

This autumn morning, the fog rolled down the center of Prague from the Vltava River and the rising sun was melting it. I felt almost like in theatre watching it from the distance of Petrin.

To podzimní ráno se do centra Prahy valila mlha z koryta Vltavy a vycházející slunce ji postupně rozpouštělo. Z Petřínských strání to bylo nádherné divadlo.

Last weekend, I drove 4hrs to Pfeiffer Beach, and finally was able to shoot the oft-photographed arch at Pfeiffer Beach... alongside at least 15 other photographers! I'm not used to shooting with crowds, so it was challenging to be limited to such a small range of compositions. For some reason, the mass of photographers ended up shooting quite far away from the subject. I used my longer lens to get a tighter composition, and had a go at the scene.

Today the most important thing is music. Long ago I was looking for a photograph to accompany this song, one of the most beautiful and moving songs I've heard.

If I had clipped the wings

would have been mine,

would not have escaped.

But so

would no longer be a bird.

And I ...

what I loved was a bird.

no habría escapado.

Pero así,

habría dejado de ser pájaro.

Y yo...

You are here - like millions before you, with cameras - what would you do?

All I knew is that I wanted to try *something else* by stacking all exposure extending filters I brought along to get the longest possible exposure I could under the given circumstances. :)

It was *really* bright and sunny, so it was quite a challenge.

I put my ND110 (10 stops) on top of my Nikon 50mm AF-D f/1.4, on top of that my polarizer (worth about 2 stops) and on top of that my 84.5mm adapter with my ND grad medium filter (about 2 stops, top half)... giving me an exposure of +60 seconds!

Plus irreparable colour damage too - hehe - so I had to go for mono here.

I know, it's *still* the Eiffel Tower - but I hope you appreciate the effort! ;-)

[NL]

I love sassy wildlife! Couldn't help myself and went further into the folder and found this shot of the gathering. I believe that the rams had just come down from the hills when I found them this day, because there were about 20, and the crowd grew larger during the time spent with them. Very little of Fall was left and I worked hard to position myself so as to catch some of the color that remained on mostly bare branches.

Okay, I'm off to do an interview.

Is this blue enough for your blue gallery FWT ?

I had no idea these stripes were here when I initially started to photograph this plant. As I got closer, they looked pretty cool and through my macro lens, even better. One of my favorite things to do photographically is see things through the macro lens that I otherwise wouldn't see. I think that's why I am so obsessed with macro photography, especially of unusual plants. This is my second of fifty two for the Big Five Two.
