Zendala Dare 31 from The Bright Owl. Tangles used: Rose', Dyon, Flora, Zin variation, Hibred (partial), and Drupe.

This week Erin from The Bright Owl ( www.thebrightowl) has asked us to 'lose' a part of the template. This is my 3rd Zendala showing first in black and white, then coloured in. I think I may have gone too far, but hey...... what do you do? :)

I really enjoyed this dare - thank you Erin :)

Thanks for stopping by - comments welcome :)

yet another zendala. i forgot to note down which tangles i used. :(

Created on January 1, 2009

This was going to be a freeform zentangle/zendala but it sort of evolved and demanded much more attention.

Created with fine and ultra fine sharpie marker and scrapbooking marker.

The Challenge on this Zendala was to use only one tangle. I chose Ving, created by Amy Broady. I'll admit it's tanglelated quite a bit, and I added a few embellishments. I drew it on pink cardstock with Micron pens and used black and white graphite pencils to shade it. I enjoy your comments, so please leave one. Thanks for looking.

This week's dare was to honor someone touched by cancer. I lost my little brother to the disease, and created a steampunk picture featuring the zendala template in the center. Fred would have liked steampunk, funky, busy, retro, colorful. I started with an 8.5″ x 11″ watercolor paper and sponged several colors of distress ink over the whole page. Then I printed the full size template centered on the page and started to tangle. I picked tangles I thought would go with a steampunk theme. Some of them are: Brix by Vicki Murray, Keeko, Cadent, Striping, and Pepper, which are all official ZTs, and Struzzle by Jo Newsham. The rest of them are from Sandra Strait’s Steampunk Series, and include Background #2, Planateen, Klock # One, and parts of Geer #3. I turned the zendala template into a giant “geer” by beginning with step three of Geer # Three on the outside edge of the template. I added the candle in the lower right to symbolize the light and love that my brother shed in the lives of those of us who loved him. I think I’m going to have this framed with a picture of Fred and give it to his daughter, Sarah.

Even though I love working with straight lines, I did find this dare to be quite a challenge as I wanted to do something other than grid work. You may hop on over to see other dares here www.thebrightowl.com with Erin. thanks for looking :))

From a template; for a group swap

This was a different type of zendala to those we have had before and the only pattern I thought of before I started was Verve. Then the rest of the frame just happened. To fill the middle I decided to use a nice easy zen grid type tangle which most of us recognise - Bales.

Using fine line Sharpies, this piece is drawn in a Zentangle type book called Between the Lines.

Scanned with my flat-bed scanner. The colors are more true to the actual picture.

Still catching up on dares I missed.

Even if you're not up to the challenge, you can view some incredible submissions! I highly recommend.

Thanks for looking.

My first successful Auraknot. Zentangle, zendala, micron pens, forgot shading. OOPs

Pre strung black zendala with silver Pentel hybrid gel

I found this week's dare quite a challenge as we could only choose tangles beginning with the letters 'P' 'I' and 'E', with a bit of a twist, one of the tangles were to be ones we haven't used before. Not as easy as it seems.

This one is very simple as I was limited to tangles I've not used before :)

Thanks for looking, comments always welcome! :))

Tangles used: Pinwheels (not used before), In a Pod and Echoism

After a recommendation from Diana (Didsch) about adding more shading - here it is. It didn't make much difference so I increased the darkness in-between the 'nzeppel, I think that has helped highlight the difference between light and dark.

You can download the PDF of them mandala template from my blog at rainbowelephant.com starting 4 December 2011

Using a white Zendala and mainly the tangle pattern Verve with graphite.

This Zendala was a template received from Erin at The Bright Owl for making a donation to her Cancer Walk.

The circles just screamed Purk! This Zendala is drawn on tile-size card stock (5"x5") with Micron .01 Pen; it's colored with Prisma pencils and fine line colored pens; and shaded with white and black graphite pencil. Thanks so much for viewing. Your comments are welcome.

The challenge for me on this one was to use all tangles that used parallel or straight lines to practice "line work". Used Stripes variation, Rick's Paradox, Baton, Bilt, Hibred. I also try to include at least one tangle I've never drawn before and that was Bilt. A simple, easy to draw tangle that has a kind of deceptively complicated look when it's finished. Luv it, a new favorite one.

Erin's Zendala Dare #58

zentangle, zendala, Staedtler Pigment Pens, Sharpie ultra fine markers, Tombow colored markers and blending pen, Pitt pen Gold.

This is the first Zendala I have ever done. I started with a blank page. I think I will try some more working from a pattern.

August 2012

This is a full-sized template, drawn with micron pen, colored with copics markers in shades of grey and red. Graphite shading and Sharpie White Poster Paint marker also used. Tangles: Pais, Opus, Hairy, Fescu, Ennies and tipple.

Done on January 5, 2009

I am so addicted to doing zentangles and zendalas it's not funny. I stepped out of my comfort zone a bit and tried to stretch my technique with them.

Created with fine and ultra fine sharpie marker and scrapbooking marker.
