Here's another attempt at this week's challenge. Really wanted to add more flow and curves and textures to this template.
This was my first go at this week's Zendala Dare - done on the round template. Check out all the lovely Zendalas here www.thebrightowl.com with Erin.
Erin has asked that this weeks challenge is to use only PENCIL when creating your Zendala. I enjoyed doing this template and it was also easy to drag some of the graphite into a little shading as there was a lot of it around. I decided to use a floral theme and three of the tangles I chose were based on dividing a shape into eight. That wasn't planned but just happened.
Erin asked us to make a zendala for someone near that overcame cancer or lost his/her life to cancer.
I lost people who were close to my heart, but not to cancer. So I'm a lucky person that cancer stayed away from me until now.
I decided to make the zendala for celebrating life!
I connected everything from the middle to the border to show the connection between people all over the world..
Kings Crown on the border stands for people all around, that support each-other.
This Zendala was one from Geneviève Crabe. Gosh there were so many sections to this zendala I wasn't sure where to start. It could also have become a clock face as there were twelve points!! I will leave that someone else to do this week.

This is my latest zendala. For information on how I design my zendalas and for more creative fun, I'd be delighted to have you visit me at my blog, Comfort Cottage, at www.terrimorse.typepad.com
Thank you for looking!
Colored with watercolors. Drawn on blue card stock with Micron Pens. Thanks for looking. I so appreciate your comments. :)
Another version of Dare #23, drawn on watercolor paper with Micron pen .01 and colored with fine line colored pens. Thanks for viewing. Your comments are welcome and appreciated.
Erin's Dare this week was to make our own Zendala. She showed how to make a snowflake (a blast from the past), and then trace it on paper. Above is my snowflake.
Black, blue, green, red and purple Sharpie fine point pen. The center is supposed to be "feathers" though they look weird in this picture.
This is my second entry in Erin's Monodala. This one uses the pattern 'IXORUS'. I have taken progress photos of the Zendala if you wish to view. This took me a while to do, was very intricate as there is very little space in some of the sections of the template.... oh well! once you start you just can't stop :) Enjoy and thanks for looking. www.thebrightowl.com
I haven't been able to do the last few Dare's, I like Christmas but I think I have been trying to do too many original Christmas Cards!! Next year may have to be done differently. I only used simple tangles on this zendala, but, quite like the overall effect.
I did this Zendala Dare but never posted it. It is done on scrapbook flowered paper. It is tile sized and colored with prismacolor pencils.

Yea, yea, I know, I get it now - find your own template you dislike Lila!!! not the one Erin disliked - Oh my! :)
Thanks for your visit :)
This week Erin from The Bright Owl ( www.thebrightowl) has asked us to 'lose' a part of the template. This is my 3rd Zendala showing first in black and white, then coloured in. I think I may have gone too far, but hey...... what do you do? :)
I really enjoyed this dare - thank you Erin :)
Thanks for stopping by - comments welcome :)
Created on January 1, 2009
This was going to be a freeform zentangle/zendala but it sort of evolved and demanded much more attention.
Created with fine and ultra fine sharpie marker and scrapbooking marker.
The Challenge on this Zendala was to use only one tangle. I chose Ving, created by Amy Broady. I'll admit it's tanglelated quite a bit, and I added a few embellishments. I drew it on pink cardstock with Micron pens and used black and white graphite pencils to shade it. I enjoy your comments, so please leave one. Thanks for looking.
This week's dare was to honor someone touched by cancer. I lost my little brother to the disease, and created a steampunk picture featuring the zendala template in the center. Fred would have liked steampunk, funky, busy, retro, colorful. I started with an 8.5″ x 11″ watercolor paper and sponged several colors of distress ink over the whole page. Then I printed the full size template centered on the page and started to tangle. I picked tangles I thought would go with a steampunk theme. Some of them are: Brix by Vicki Murray, Keeko, Cadent, Striping, and Pepper, which are all official ZTs, and Struzzle by Jo Newsham. The rest of them are from Sandra Strait’s Steampunk Series, and include Background #2, Planateen, Klock # One, and parts of Geer #3. I turned the zendala template into a giant “geer” by beginning with step three of Geer # Three on the outside edge of the template. I added the candle in the lower right to symbolize the light and love that my brother shed in the lives of those of us who loved him. I think I’m going to have this framed with a picture of Fred and give it to his daughter, Sarah.
Even though I love working with straight lines, I did find this dare to be quite a challenge as I wanted to do something other than grid work. You may hop on over to see other dares here www.thebrightowl.com with Erin. thanks for looking :))
